هل نحن مصريون أم عرب؟
يقول الدكتور للدكتور وسيم السيسي عالم المصريات في مقالة بعنوان هل نحن مصريون أم عرب؟
البعض يقول نحن مصريون، وآخرون يقولون.. نحن عرب.. وآخرون يقولون نحن Egyptians فى الخارج، عرب فى الداخل! إزدواجية حتى فى الهوية!
وحين تسأل هذا الفريق.. لماذا نحن عرب؟!
يرد عليك قائلاً: لأننا نتكلم العربية، تقول له: اللغة ليست الهوية بدليل أن الولايات المتحدة تتحدث الإنجليزية، ولم تقل أنها الولايات المتحدة البريطانية..!
وأمريكا اللاتينية تتحدث الأسبانية.. ولم يقولوا إننا أسبان، والبرازيل تتحدث البرتغالية، ولم يقولوا إننا برتغاليون، وخمس دول.. فرانكفونية تتحدث الفرنسية، ولم يقولوا إننا فرنسيون!
الهوية بالأرض وليست باللغة!
يقولون لك: نحن عرب لأننا مسلمون! ترد عليهم: إيران دولة مسلمة ولم يقولوا نحن عرب! وتركيا دولة مسلمة ولم يقولوا نحن عرب! وإندونيسيا دولة مسلمة ولم يقولوا نحن عرب! الهوية إذن ليست بالدين بل بالأرض!
أضف إلى ذلك أنه ليس هناك دولة مسلمة أو مسيحية.. لأن الدولة شخصية اعتبارية.. لا تصوم ولا تزكى.. كما أن كل دولة بها «ديانات وعقائد مختلفة».
يقولون لك مصر عربية بسبب الفتح العربى! ترد عليهم: هل كانت مصر اشورية بعد الغزو الآشورى؟، أو فارسية أو يونانية أو رومانية «الغزو الرومانى ظل ٦٧٠ سنة» أو عربية «العرب ٢٢٨ سنة» أو طولونية أو أخشيدية أو فاطمية.. أو أيوبية، أو مملوكية أو تركية عثمانية «٤٠٠ سنة» أو فرنسية أو إنجليزية بعد كل هذه الغزوات؟
لو كانت الهوية.. بهوية المحتل.. لأصبحت هوية أى دولة.. موزاييك أى لا هوية..
هل نحن مصريون أم عرب؟ أو كما يقول ستامب: إن الغزوات الكثيرة التى مرت على مصر، لم تكن إلا تغييراً فى الحكام وليست تغييرًا فى طبيعة الشعب المصرى، لأن بحر مصر الكبير من السكان.. كان يذيب الغزاة ويمصرهم، كما قال جملة فى منتهى الخطورة يجب أن نلتفت إليها.. لأنها مصدر قوتنا إن تمسكنا بها.. وضياع مصرنا.. إن انصرفنا عنها..!
قال: «إن المشكلة فى مصر.. ليس فى غزوها.. بل فى الوصول إليها! فنادراً ما تجد شعباً.. متماثلاً فى شكله وملامحه، بل وفى طباعه وأخلاقه، بل وفى مزاجه وهواياته.. مثل الشعب المصرى،
نحن مصريون نتحدث العربية وهى لغتنا الرسمية، كما نتحدث العامية وهى لغة عموم الناس لا عامة الناس، وهذه العامية هى اللغة المصرية القديمة بروافد كثيرة.. لأن اللغة بالتراكيب STRUCTURE وليست بالألفاظ..
ويطلق علماء اللغة كلمة فصحى.. عما نفصح به عن أنفسنا.. وعلى هذا القياس فالفصحى هى العامية، والرسمية هى التى نتعلمها فى مدارسنا.. ولكنها ليست لغتنا الأم»!
هؤلاء الذين يقولون نحن عرب..
ألم يسألوا أنفسهم لماذا يدخلون من باب الأجانب فى مطار المملكة السعودية؟ ولماذا يكون لهم كفيل إذا عملوا هناك؟
ولماذا كانت الجزية تفرض على ثمانية آلاف ألف «٨ ملايين» مصرى.. عند «زيارة» العرب لنا ٦٤١ ميلادية؟ «المقريزى ص ٧٦».
نحن نعرف أن مصر إذا تعثرت انكفأ العرب على وجوههم، كما نعرف أن العرب هم العمق الاستراتيجى لمصر، وقد عرفت مصر ذلك منذ عصر الهكسوس.. والذى أنقذ العرب فى الصوارى، حطين، عين جالوت.. هى مصر!
لماذا الهوية المصرية؟ لأن أوروبا قامت بإحياء القوميات ولم تتخل عنها فى السوق الأوروبية المشتركة، ولأن ألمانيا نهضت من هزيمتها فى الحرب العالمية الأولى بإحياء قوميتها.
ولأن مصر عاشت عصراً ذهبياً ٥٠٠٠ سنة بقوميتها المصرية، نصف قرن قصير العمر.. حين كان شعارها مصر للمصريين «النصف الأول من القرن العشرين».
ولأن مصر ضاعت بالمشروع العروبى الوهمى الناصرى.. انتظاراً للسلطان حتى نكون رعايا له!.. ضاعت مصر.. كما ضاعت الجولان، الضفة، القدس، سيناء أصبحت منزوعة السلاح، كما ضاع ١٠٠ ألف مصرى شهيد.. كما ضاع مائة مليار جنيه «إحصائية ـ أحمد عبدالمعطى حجازى».
خلاصة الخلاصة: أنا مصرى.. أتحدث العربية، والعامية، أؤمن بالوحدة العالمية مع بنى الإنسان.. ومن يقل لى: عيب أن نتخلى عن عروبتنا.. أقل له: بل عار أن نتخلى عن مصريتنا.. ومن ليس له خير فى مصريته.. ليس له خير حتى فى نفسه.

‘Many say we are Egyptians but others say we are Arabs, and some even still say we are Arabs abroad but Egyptians at home; a contradiction and a dichotomy all the way to the precipice.
And when we ask that group of Nay Sayers: “why are we Arabs?” they say: “Because we speak Arabic.” We say: “language is not an identity. The United States and the Bahamas speak English but they do not consider themselves English. So is most of South America, as they speak Spanish, but they never say they are Spaniards. Or the Brazilians who speak Portuguese never consider themselves from Portugal”. Good portion of Africa speaks French, but do they think they are French nationals? The identity is from the Land not by the Language”
Then they might say, “We are Arabs because we are Moslems.” We say: “Iran is a Moslem country but they do not think of themselves as Arabs. So is Turkey, 99 % Moslem, but the Turks never said they were Arabs either. Same with Indonesia; never heard them saying they were Arbs. Again; the identity is not by religion but by the Land. Also there is no such thing as Moslem country or Christian country. A state doesn’t have religion; it doesn’t fast or pray or give alms. Not to mention that all countries have multiple religions and myriads of beliefs, anyway.
Then they say, “We are Arabs because of the Arab Conquest of the 7th century. We reply, “How come we didn’t become Assyrians after the Assyrian conquest or Persians or Greek or Roman after all these invasions? The Roman rule lasted for 670 years, and the Arab’s for 228 years then came many others, but we never were Tolonites, Ikhshidites, Fatemides, Ayubides, Mamluks, Ottoman Turks (220 years) , French or British after all these successive invasions. If the identity changes with the identity of the invader, no country will have any one identity but a mosaic of identities.
The Middle Ages poet, Al- Mu3arry, said “Egypt... The Riddle of the Riddles” And Stamp wrote: “The many conquests Egypt had to endure were not more than a change of the rulers but never a change of the Egyptian people or their nature because the huge sea of the population always managed to melt and disperse the invaders and “Egyptianize” them. Then he said a very serious and important statement, because it is the source of our strength if we hold on to it and also the loss of our Egyptian character and heritage if we ignore it. He wrote: “The problem with Egypt is not in invading her, but in ‘reaching’ her. It is seldom to have a people so integrated and unique not only in their features and character but also in their temperament and morals; even in their moods and hobbies, like the Egyptians”.
We are Egyptians; we learn Arabic and speak the language as the official language of the land, but it is not our language. We speak our Egyptian language every day, our old Egyptian language, all of us. It is the language we use to express ourselves and say what we want to say the only way we know how. It is our mother tongue, not the official one we learn at school.
Finally: to those who still say we are Arabs, how do you explain the Poll Tax we used to pay, all the 8 millions of us when the Arabs “visited” us in 641 A.D.? (Al-Maqreezy Pg. 76). And how come when you visit Saudi Arabia these days they shove you in the airport through the “Foreigners’ Booths?”
Egypt lived a golden age that lasted for 5000 years and also a great short stretch in the 19th and 20th centuries when our slogan was “Egypt is for the Egyptians” until we got lost in the Nasserist imaginary Arabic project waiting for the sultan of our ages to make us his subjects and slaves. Egypt is lost with 100,000 of her sons and daughters killed in wars we didn’t want or need to fight, not to mention 100 Billion pounds of lost wealth totally wasted on whims and false dreams.
Conclusions of all conclusions: I am an Egyptian. I know Arabic but I speak my own language. I only believe in the universal unity of all human beings. Who says to me it is a shame to deny the Ara linkage, I say to him; “No; it is the utmost shame to deny your Egyptian-ness. Who loses the goodness of his Egyptian heritage loses it all. ‘
